Hi Selma,

Thanks for your response about your parents' and your education. As usual your
candid "full disclosure" reflects your solid credentials and self-confidence;
and your own pride in your background and heritage. I salute it for that. Some
unfortunately write endlessly - except about themselves. And give us their
views about issues without a "full disclosure" of the personal effect of the
subject they are discussing. Hence it is difficult to know where their
atheistic leanings / beliefs end, and their unsubstantiated allegations against
the Catholic Church or Church institutions begin.

With your voracious reading, your writing appetite and your natural inclination
to research social issues, I would appreciate if you took on the duty of
educating us about the successes of Sudras. The fact that some use the word
'non-Bamons', reflect their own look-down of other groups other than Bamons.

It was interesting that the otherwise progressive Hindus, including Bhandari,
ducked responding to my suggestions of confronting caste practice in their
religion and society. I have reproduced the section again in case some of them
missed it.

Kind Regards, GL

One empowers the 'lower' caste by highlighting their achievements. On Goanet, I
read India's first Cardinal was a NON-Bamon. More recently I read a similar
reference to Jack Sequeira. Why this duplicity? Why do the members of this
caste not claim them; and proudly educate us about the success of their other
members ... just like Selma has done. We can leave out the dating scene.:=))

India has had Sudra kings, Presidents, Chief Ministers, Cardinals, Bishops,
etc. etc. It is high time Goans acknowledge the Sudra and other caste
contributions to Goa. I encourage the Sudra and other Goans to take the lead
and educate us about this. THEIR contribution and success is GOAN success and
pride; just like in the case of Cardinal Gracias.

I am no authority on Hinduism or its practices. Yet one way for anti-caste
Hindus to bring down the barriers, is to take along a 'lower caste' Hindu with
them, next time they visit the temple. Or invite them to your house for a meal.
Perhaps a morcha and an entrance into the temples by Hindus of all castes
walking interlocked elbow-in-elbow would be a welcome sight across India. This
would be just like Martin Luther King's desegregation marches. Just some
thoughts for some public action for Hindu Goanetters who are anti-caste. This
would be a little more than mere talking and writing about it.
