Enjoyed reading the long essay on the life of a Goan in Burma. It was
interesting to be transported to Rangoon during WWII and the travails of
leaving a country which one called home for many years.

Hardy, pioneer-like stuff that seems enchanting to those of us who have been
used to mere jetsetting around the world on jobs that one picks from the
newspaper or the internet and countries far from home that one adopts. Those
were days in which camarderie was more than just a word and crabbiness yet
to be coined in the Goan lexicon.

An age in which people enjoyed simple pleasures, lived and cared for one
another without thinking, without seeking shrewd reward and without being
judgmental. A time of honesty, selflessness and closeness of family one
doesn't get too much of, these days. May the likes of John Menezes rest
forever in the fulfillment of a passage well travelled.

Roland.
