Enroute to Goa, I indulged in the customary coffee and magazine rack
stops....some recollections...

Leela Palace Kempinski (Bangalore) has been rated as the favourite business
hotel in the world in a Readers' Choice Awards by UK travel magazine Conde
Nast Traveller (Newsweek)..........Delighted it was not one of those ugly
monstrosities in Dubai.

Google is into 'cloud-computing' - not surprisingly......another avenue to
trump all that research in this subject at Microsoft.....IBM is presently
putting in place a 'cloud-computing' environment for Vietnam (BW)

Abu Dhabi hopes to become the first Green City in the world.....yes with
zero carbon emissions. May have to move those flare gas stacks into the
desert. (BW)

Hypersonic age is here........around A corner....some corner. Scram-jet
powered test vehicle HTV-3X will be put thru the paces....as fast as Mach
6.......imagine......breakfast in Toronto, Dinner in Goa, Lunch in
Sydney......all within a 24-hr period of your life. (PopSci)

Led Zeppelin Reunion a reality and they are back on the road....some
baby-boomers are reaching for their lycra........ again. (RS)

Top 10 of everything in 2007 - Time Magazine:
#1 Book "The World Without Us - Alan Weisman"
Most underreported story of 2007 - Somalia, the other Darfur

The Economist - Booming India.....going bust.......all the numbers are off
the scale....Rupee is high, infrastructure unable to keep up with growth,
new competing locations popping up around the world, Bangalore is a disaster
- one can spend 3-4 hrs in traffic each day, etc, etc.....While IT
outsourcing has helped drive the stocks of Indian companies to giddy
heights, Accenture, IBM and HP have wisened up and ramped up their employee
pool to 150,000+ employees. So while Indians get jobs, foreign companies
still make the money. Customers of Indian companies want them to do more
than running systems. They want them to develop new solutions; something
Indian firms are unwilling or not setup to do.

On another note a revision in calculating GDP will be announced shortly by
the World Bank.....India will definitely drop behind Japan and probably
behind Germany in terms of size of economy by GDP.

Touching down in Dabolim...............2 charters on the
ground..........still dark.........
