Miguel Mathany hails govt decision on SEZs NT Staff Reporter Panaji, Dec 31 Reacting to the decision of the government to scrap special economic zones proposed in the state, the convenor of the Goa's Movement Against SEZs, Mr Mathany Saldanha today said, "The GMAS is happy that the government has respected the demand of the people." However, he said the GMAS will be active till the three notified SEZs are de-notified and the land handed over by the government to the companies as well as land developers for setting up of the SEZs is withdrawn. Speaking to 'The Navhind Times' this evening, Mr Saldanha said the GMAS will be meeting tomorrow to discuss the decision of the government and finalise its further plan of action. "The GMAS will also keep a close watch as to whether industrial estates are planned in the areas which were earmarked for the SEZs," he said. Furthermore, Mr Saldanha said the GMAS would like to thank the Goans for their undaunted support and solidarity as regards the SEZ issue and also thank the tourists who might have faced any inconvenience due to the agitation. "The tourists, without this agitation, would have found Goa to be a state without its identity after some years," he observed, wishing a happy New Year to one and all.
