A close reading reveals that in the name of non-violence this article "doth protest too much" about tourism with a few crocodile tears about tourists not getting a fair deal and is a "call to arms" against it. It justifies the amazing switch of a former Minister of Tourism to making veiled threats against tourists who he feels might get "caught in a cross fire".
I dont hear his idea of tourism being propagated by conservative Muslim countries like Malaysia and Egypt. I also dont hear such views propounded in a big way by even the Pope whose seat is surrounded by a booming tourist land such as Italy. The only places which may be consistent with his views are perhaps Iran of the Ayatollahs and Afghanistan of the Taliban. Maybe Modi's Gujarat is a model. Is that what Goa is coming to? God forbid. He rants against Bollywood for pushing the "clown" image of Goans. Maybe they just got their inspiration from Mario Miranda's own lovable cartoons of Goan life. He raves aganst "75% of profits of tourism appropriated by non-Goans". Churchill Alemao himself has observed that 30% of Goa's population is dependent on its tourism economy. So the discovery is not earth-shaking by any means. All in all, a case of the devil quoting scripture.
