No hand in crisis, claims BJP NT Staff Reporter
Panaji, Jan 19 The Bharatiya Janata Party today categorically denied of having anything to do with the recent coup attempt against the government by the Nationalist Congress Party and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLAs, along with the Health Minister, Mr Vishwajeet Rane and Mr Atanasio Monserrate. Speaking to 'The Navhind Times', the state BJP president, Mr Shripad Naik said, "The coup resulted from internal differences arising out of personal interests of some over-ambitious MLAs and ministers who wanted lucrative posts and profit-making portfolios for selfish gains." The people involved in the coup are adults who know what is better for them and need no advice from the BJP, he said, adding that the Congress always has a habit of using BJP as a pretext to hide their shortcomings and faults. "I repeat, we had no hand in the coup," he reiterated. The leader of the opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar said that he has addressed letters to the All-India Congress committee president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and the Union Home Minister, Mr Shivraj Patil narrating the incidents which have taken place in the Goan political arena during past few days. "The series of events during past few days are so shameful as the progress and development of the state, and more importantly the democracy having become the casualty in the entire exercise," he added. Speaking further, Mr Parrikar said, "If at all the political imbroglio in the state has been resolved, then I am afraid it is for a temporary period, as the government is still in minority, and not all supporting the government are satisfied." The opposition leader maintained that proroguing the House by the Governor, Mr S C Jamir made the floor of the House unavailable for the elected members who opposed the government, and in turn opened a floodgate for horse-trading as well as threatening means such as issuing notices to the MLAs, their possible disqualification, and debarring them from contesting elections for five years. He said, "In fact, the BJP is seriously thinking about removing the Speaker for his anti-constitutional act," The leader of the opposition also maintained that the BJP's demand for recalling of the Governor by the Centre still stands.
