Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi invites you to the Goa
release
of its latest State of Indias Environment report, on mining: Rich Lands,
Poor People
-- Is Sustainable Mining Possible?
The Governor of Goa, Shri S C Jamir, will release the report on Monday,
January 28, 2008, between 5-7 pm in Caritas Hall- Goa Holiday Home, Caritas
Complex, Near Caculo Circle, Panjim- 403001, Goa.
CSEs State of Indias Environment reports have been widely acknowledged as
the
most comprehensive and authoritative series of publications on the subject of
environment and development in India. The report on mining lives up to the
reputation
and the promise. Extensively researched and richly illustrated, this 350-page
report has
been prepared as a state-
of-art tome on mining in India, its impacts on environment and people, and the
way
ahead (see the Table of Contents below).
Sunita Narain, director, CSE and Chandra Bhushan, associate director, CSE will
make presentations on the occasion. A panel discussion will follow the official
release.
The event is expected to bring together key mining experts, media persons, civil
society organisations, regulatory institutions and industry associations to
discuss and
debate the critical question that the book puts forth: how should mining be
done in
India.
