Dear Goanetters,
Have a look at the newspaper opinion below , espescially the
last 3 paragraphs :
http://www.navhindtimes.com/articles.php?Story_ID=012618
Just to take a couple of lines out :
" Mr Jamir has acted in a partisan manner that is a flagrant
violation of constitutional norms and proprieties , to say
nothing of political decencies "
" The sheer brazenness of Mr Jamir on this occasion is
shocking beyond words "
Several national broadsheets and tabloids made very similar
observations. I have already posted one such link in a prior
message.
Now , lets have look at today's Herald editorial which takes
a different view of Jamir's actions :
http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=7689&cid=15
I find it fascinating that Jamir's violation of the Indian
constitution is now reduced to a mere "colourable exercise of
authority " while all the emphasis is on Manohar Parrikar
showing his " contempt for the broad principles of democracy "
I suspect the stark contrast between the Herald's take
and that of the others is because unlike all the rest, the
Herald editorials are not for sale. ( Refer to the "editorials
for sale " business on www.penpricks.blogspot.com for
the details )
And in passing , some lighter stuff related to the
" colourable " and " apolitical " Governor. His republic day
speech below , for some reason which I cannot put my
finger on at the moment , reminds me of the honourable
Mr Hacker of Yes Minister fame :

While there is a lot of Wodehouse-ian humour in all the
party political tribe above, one gem is worth treasuring :
" time has come to delve deep in our consciousness , search
our minds and evaluate our actions to see where we have gone
wrong "
Oh , Mr S C Jamir , why do you have to delve so deep into
your " consciousness " to see where you have gone wrong ?
( unless you are in deep coma caused by overindulgence in
the liquid refreshments Goa has offered you ...at the Goan
exchequers cost of course ! )
luv and regards,
anand
( Dr Anand Virgincar )
