Folks,
Ben Antao, another Goanetter, just informed me in an email that
Goan-Canadian author, Lino Leitao, passed away on January 24, 2008 in
Montreal, Canada, age 77.
Lino Leitao was born in Varca, Goa and was a student at Popular High School
in Margao when Dr. Juliao Menezes and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia entered Margao
in a horse-drawn carriage on June 18, 1946.
Lino, studied at Karnataka University in India and was involved in Goa's
freedom struggle. He lived in Uganda in the 60s before migrating to Canada.
He was an active Goanetter in the 1990s during Goanet's infancy and early
years.
He is the author of 'The Gift of the Holy Cross' (1999) and his earlier
works include Collected Tales, Goan Tales and Six Tales. His stories have
been published by Goa Today, Gulab, Gomantak Times (Goa); Afro-Asian
Quarterly, Journal of Asian Literature (Michigan State University), The
Toronto South Asian Review, Pacific Quarterly (New Zealand), New Canadian
Review, Short Story International (New York), The Antigonish Review and
others.
