To Goanet -

Joining the Indian Union in 1961 without any safeguards in
place was the kiss of death for Goa and Goans. The chickens
are coming home to roost now after 40 years. With nothing
to impede the ingress of India's infinite supply of sewage,
Goa is doomed.

Presented here is a slew of remarkable photographs shot
c. 1900 by Guerra Souza of "Souza & Paul." I hear that
Guerra is interred at the Panjim Church cemetery (can
anyone confirm?). The photos are currently stored in the
archives of the Central Library in Panjim. They are in need
of urgent work using the latest techniques in document
preservation. The negatives, I understand, were sold not
too long ago by the Souza nincompoops to a bhailo for
a song.

I decided to take photographs of these photographs as
a backup insurance in case of further mishaps. I plan to
make a gallery soon. Meanwhile, here are a few samplers.
Note that the copyright rests with Souza & Paul and the
material provided here is strictly for non-commercial
purposes.

Those hills have now been laid to waste. What the Portuguese
couldn't achieve in 450 years, the Indian barbarians did in
less than 10 -

The next 4 photographs are in the form of old postcards, collected
and published in the following book -

"Postais Antigos do Estado da Índia" by João Loureiro

- a copy of which has been deposited in the Rare Books
section of the Central Library. The book was published in
1998 but it is not available on Amazon.com etc. I tried
contacting the publishers (Fundacao Macau) via telephone
and over email but haven't had any luck. Is there any
Goanettor based in Macau? See this link -
