PRESS COMMUNIQUE
There has been no communique received yet prohibiting the celebrations of the
Feast of "Nossa Senhora de Brotas" on 2nd February, 2008. Hence a fax message
has been sent to the Naval Officer In-charge INS Kadamba and the Deputy
Commissioner Karwar District today 31/01/2008 intimating of the visit of Goan
faithful for the Feast Mass.
Those interested could be in preparedeness for the visit.
There will be two masses one at 1100 hrs and the other at 1400 hrs to restrict
the crowd on the Island. All visitors would have to carry the photoidentity
cards. Transport from the main gate at Arga and to the Island will be the
responsibility of the Sea Bird authorities . Also the drinking water and
toilet facilities, on the Island. Photography is not permitted on the Island
being a Defence Establishment.
In the event of any communique from the INS Kadamba officials to the contrary
the same will be intimated to the Press should time permit the publishing of
the news.
The a) Office of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman Paco Patriacal Altinho
Panaji b) Union Minister for Defence Mr A K Antony c) the Rajya Sabha Member
of Parliament Mr Shantaram L Naik (is already in contact with the NOIC INS
Kadamba), d) Chief of Naval Staff Sureesh Mehta e) Leader of the Opposition Mr
Manohar Parrikar and f) Vatican Council are kept posted of the developments
from time to time.
It is time that the Navy is compelled to honour the terms of the grant of use
of the Anjediv Island Canacona taluka to them where in they have been
specifically directed to permit the customary feasts being celebrated on 4th
October Feast of St Francis de Assisi and 2nd February Nossa Senhora de
Brotas.
Even otherwise there should not be any reason for not permitting the faithful
on the Island when every 4th December, on Navy Day the authorities invite the
public to visit the Defence Establishments.
