Archbishop releases 'Follow Me'

Panaji, Jan 30 The Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Rev Filipe Neri Ferrao today released the book, 'Follow Me' by Fr Nascimento Mascarenhas at JMJ hospital hall, Porvorim. Speaking on the occasion, Rev Ferrao while congratulating the author of the book for taking pains in gathering and compiling varied information about the churches in Bardez, said that Fr Mascarenhas has managed to enshrine the religious history of Bardez and wished that the book would act as an incentive to dwell in the treasures of history. "The book contains a mind of information about the social and cultural history of Bardez and gives details about the tireless disciples of Christ through the Franciscan missionaries, followed by the priests of Goa dioceses," he added.

Rev Ferrao said that although the book carries the history of the past, the title of the book speaks of the present clarion call to the masses. "The book speaks of witnesses who have responded to the call of Jesus, especially those who came with different cultures and with different challenges," he mentioned.

The Archbishop disclosed that the book tells us that we are called to be disciples of Jesus. "The book speaks of hundreds and thousands who have responded to the call of God and they proclaimed by being silent and courageous witnesses of Christ. Today, its not only the clergy but everyone are invited to be courageous witnesses and instruments of peace to create history," he added.

Earlier, the director of Pastoral Institute Pope Pius X, Old Goa, Fr Francisco Caldeira while reading the extracts from the book, said, "if the ramifications are varied as the different disciplines of human interaction in Goa, the probe into them is not less laborious in discerning and projecting them in a proper perspective without betraying the objectivity of events."

Fr Caldeira said that the author has also taken care to describe the process of administering the baptism in the region he investigated the book, namely Bardez. "The book is an ambitious project and the research done is extensive," he added. Fr Caldeira also stated that if the sources could be quoted in the original language then it would have enriched the book and remain a reference book for other investigations in the field. The director of the Clergy Home, Porvorim, Rev Canon Wilson Almeida also spoke on the occasion. Mr Daniel D'Souza compered the function.
