Panaji Carnival 2008 02.02.2008
It seems this years carnival is most expensive (but least organized). There were police all over the 2kms parade stretch/street but they were not of much help to keep the crowd off the parade street which disappointed many gathered crowed/tourists. Too many people seen walking around inside the barricade, there were too many cameramen too (including mobile phone camera) and the police could not do anything about it, Police could not even control to clear off the crowd those obstructing the chief guests or VIPs view including CM, Ministers, CS etc The announcer was heard requesting Goa Police repeatedly to clear off the obstruction in front the VIPs . It also appears that this year crowed was more than last year but number of floats were comparatively less. The parade was to start at 3pm but it actually started just before 5pm. Dont know why it could not start on time. Every year same story. CM Digu, Tourism Minister Micky, CCP Chief Tony etc made their first appearance in a specially (Carnival designed) motorcade followed by King Momo. There was about 5-10minutes gap in-between the groups/floats and at one stage there was gap of about 30 minutes, people got bored and some left by 6.30pm. The Parade ended around 8pm. Video to follow soon (but could not capture well after 6.30pm and my camera has night-blindness).
