Dear Goanetters, I shall wrap up my response to all the reactions so
far in this thread into a single posting to save Goanet space. A )
Mervyn-bab says : 1) One cannot challenge someone who keeps on posting
rubbish unless we resort to " one liners " 2) Do try to pen us
Parrikar's faults My response : 1) It is much better to challenge any
postings you feel are foolish by pointing out what you feel is an untruth
and asking politely to furnish evidence . If the original posting was
genuinely a foolish one , this will make that individual lose credibilty
with fellow netters. Vice versa , if that person can justify the point , he
/she will gain credibility. For instance , I do not agree with the comments
Chinmay-bab made with respect to the recent planned terrorist attack on Goa.
My queries to him are : a) Is the uncontrolled migration into Goa not
just by muslims but also by those of other religions ? b) Even if a
disproportionately large number of these migrants are muslim , why should
they be held to account for any problems that occur in Goa ( in view of the
fact that the news item you provide had nothing to do with Goan muslims )
On the other hand , by making one liners like the " Stickler syndrome "
business ( which , however well veiled ,was clearly a personal attack at a
particular individual and was also totally out of context to the issue
under discussion on that thread ) , you may have brought a smile to many a
face , but would risk loosing a degree of credibilty . 2) I have not
forgotten my promise to you about posting my thoughts about Parrikar's
misdoings ( and I refer to the Manohar variety than the Rajan one ! ). The
undue delay has been : a) Due to lack of time ( and I have to condense the
dossier I have on Mr Parrikar's faults into a readable size posting ) b)
I am waiting for the Goanet pitch to become a bit more playable for the
visiting team :-) B) Vidyadhar-bab says : 1) Many people who
have serious problems with the BJP do not belong to the categories I
mentioned. 2) My question as to why mild / moderate persons support BJP
in spite of knowing their " Hindutva " agenda and their links with
pro-Hindu organisations is irrelevent. 3) It is probably only elite
Catholics who currently have pro-BJP leanings. My response :
1) I may have been in error when I referred to staunch Congress/ Catholic.
It was probably because I was writing in context of where my previous
discussion ( on the one point agenda thread ) with Marshall-bab ended.
Apologies . Please change that to all staunch anti-BJP persons.
2) I feel my question above is still extremely relevant . It is one which I
seriously doubt many , if not most, staunch anti-BJP persons on this forum
have been presented with before . And after all , Like
Karl Marx , we need to question everything :-) 3) Now that is not
a very good presumption on your part as it is prone to interpretation ( or
misinterpretation ) in several ways : a) Catholics who are not pro-BJP are
not elite. b) You have to be an elite Catholic to support the BJP. c)
Elite Catholics make good political choices. d) Elite Catholics make bad
political choices. e) Non elite Catholics make good political choices.
f) Non elite Catholics make bad political choices.
     h) As Catholics become more elite , they will lean more towards BJP g)
etc etc...but whichever way I look at it , the statement could well hurt
either elite or non-elite Catholics ( depending on whether the term elite
is considered complimentary or not )

     C) Frederick-bab says :

     1) Communal focussed analysis of politics is not everything.
     2) We are simplifying / polarising issues.
     3) Using the suffix " bab " has class connotations.

      My response :

      1) Agree. All the more reason why my question as to why persons
like me support the BJP so strongly is very very relevant .( refer to
      point 2 in section B )

      2) Agree partly . I was taking this in context of my discussion with
Marshall-bab and might have mislead you. ( refer to point 1 in section B )

      3) Disagree. Not for me . As far as I am concerned , I use it out of
sheer politeness. ( and as you may have noticed , to all persons I
interact with on this forum ).

       luv and regards,
       anand

       ( Dr Anand Virgincar )
