Dear goanet Readers.

Goans look at NRI/NRG as one who comes to Goa for a short while, have a good
time, and criticize everything and everybody. " If you care so much about
Goa,why not come and help.”I have heard these sentiments often enough and I
feel some of them are genuine, while others not.

During my interaction with different sets of people, I try to make a point that
many NRIS/NRGS are involved in many charitable and non-charitable causes in
Goa. Some are known, like Goa “Sudrop”, whilst others are unknown( like my
friend who spends lacs of rupees every year).

When I read Goan Voice-UK, I ask myself again and again, why?Goans, in spite of
being  successful and contributing so much around the world, Goa should be in
such a state? In spite of living abroad for years, many goans have their hearts
and souls in Goa, and  want to settle back home. We have passionate debates on
Goanet out of sheer love for Goa.so, why not get involved back home?

All of us have different talents, and can contribute in our own way.Yes, the
biggest hurdle will be the corrupt politicians and their cronies. But,we have
better resources and means to tackle them and  have no personal agenda (except
the good of Goa), or  favors to ask. As one very upright and honorable Goan
told me this time; we need galvanizing,we need catalysts, and NRIS/NRGS can be
the catalysts! I thought, how true. After all these years of hope for better
life, Goans are so disillusioned, that they are skeptical and cynical about
anybody and everything.

I remember a sermon by an elderly priest about “ Love, Faith and Hope”. He
said, when Love and Faith is lost, something is lost, but it is not the end of
the world. When you loose HOPE, you loose everything. Is there any hope for
Goa?That is the question everybody is asking these days.As one veteran of many
Goan agitations told me. I am “skeptical, but Hopeful”, and so am I like many
others. Provided, we forget our petty egos, biases, prejudices and vested
interests for the greater Good of Goa.

NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE AND WHAT YOU DO, DON’T FORGET YOUR MOTHERLAND!
