The Port city today witnessed another day of bandh by the Mormugao Bachao
Abhiyan (MBA). This morning as office goers school children went to school
most of them had to do without the services of the public transport. The KTCL
buses did not move beyond the KTCL and some beyond the Old bus stand. at
Vasco-da-Gama. At 1030 a massive morcha was organised towards the MPT but the
same was peaceful. After 1200 pm there appeared to be some relaxation and
transport began with a skeleton service. However according to the police
though no agenda has been fixed for tommorrow according to their reports they
will maintain strict vigil throughout the port city.

Meanwhile this writer spoke to the Minister for Revenue Mr Jose Philip De Souza
MLA Vasco-da-Gama late evening and was given to understand that the as of now
attempts are made to direct the shopowners to resume activities; transport too
may not be affected. As regards the trawlers and barges placed on the
navigational channels at the Port they may be asked to vacate positions but
this needs to be arrived at with the consensus of all the constituents of the
MBA.

Mr D Souza further stated that the Chairman of the MPT has in principle agreed
to refrain from relocation of the religious structures and also involve the
citizenary on all issues.

However Mr Simon Pereira Convenor of MBA would not accede to oral submissions
at the special meet convened today with Port authorities and the three
Ministers all representatives of the talukas. He told media persons after the
meet and this report is confirmed by the Local information bureau of the Police
that while the fishing projects at Baina Vaddem and Vasco-da-Gaama will not be
pursued besides coal will henceforth be moved by rail alone other issues
regards use of launch will be deliberated later. However Mr Pereira stated
that without these oral assurances in writing there could not be any attempts
to retract the movement.
