The Gram Sabha of village panchayat of Xeldem in  its recently held meeting 
unanimously  passed a resolution stating not to allow the Quepem Municipal 
council to dump garbage at pedamol of Sirvoi village of Xeldem panchayat. 
   
  Participating in the discussion the villagers of pedamol stated that the land 
proposed for dumping bearing  survey No.88/1 there are around 15 house mostly 
belonging to the Dhanger Community in which  around 250 people are residing. If 
the proposed site is use as a garbage dumping site  than it will them in terms 
of health, sanitation  etc.  
   
  They further stated that  there are 3 perennial  natural water spring at the 
foot of the hillock. The water of these springs is being  is used by the 
villagers for their daily consumption and also for cattle’s , buffalos  and 
goats. The proposed project will affect these springs as the garbage site is at 
a higher level the  waste in rainy season through the rain  water will 
percolate into the soil which will meet the springs and will affect our natural 
source of water 
  That 90% of the villagers residing therein are agriculturist and make their 
living on animal husbandry The Proposed garbage site is being used by the 
villagers for rearing their cattle’s, buffalos and goats.  If this site is used 
as garbage dumping site it will affect our livelihood stated the villagers who 
participated in the discussion.
  That after a long discussion the gram sabha unanimously passed a resolution 
opposing any garbage dumping in the site and to drop the acquisition 
proceedings which has been initiated . The meeting was held under the President 
ship of  Sarpanch Benedita Fernandes.

  That Quepem will soon have a parallel bridge over Kushawati River stated 
Quepem MLA shri Chandrakant Kavlakar. 
  Quepem MLA along with PWD Executive Engineer P.T.Parker, Assistant E.E 
U.H.Nai and Assistant Engineer Rosario Pereira along with other recently the 
bridge. 
  MLA informed reporters that the new parallel bridge will be constructed at 
the cost of Rs.4.50 crore. One the new bridge is completed then there will be a 
smooth flow of traffic as the present bridge is weak and one way resulting in 
traffic jam. 
  However though the foundation stone of the bridge was laid in march 2007 just 
before the assembly election at the hands of then CM Shri Pratapsing Rane  the 
soil testing work of the bridge has been commenced in this week only.
