I read the postings of Venatius, Anand Virgincar and Jose Colaco on the subject and thought I should contribute to this post.
Digamber neither created Moti Dongor nor the slum area there. What he did is expanded the very base of Moti Dongor slum area many folds and extended it up to Junta Quarters by providing them with 24 x 7 water supply, electricity, roads, and also started Kadamba bus service for this slum dwellers. Digamber did not create Khareband but expanded the base of slum dwellers again providing 24 x 7 water supply & electricity. Digamber did not create Fakiraband but existing slum area was increased by 3 - 4 folds although every year this area gets flooded during monsoon and government spends lakhs of rupees during this time. In short come rain and congressmen make handful at the cost of this slum dwellers. Digamber did not create Azad Nagar (previously Babu Nagri) but provided them with all the facilities and to support these Azad Nagar dwellers he started another Digu Nagar right opposite to this Nagar i.e. near the entrance of the Margao Railway station on Pajifond side, next to Victor Apollo hospital. Digamber did not start housing board but expanded it to beyond one could even think or dream about!! Today Digamber is list bothered of Madgaonkars. He openly says so and once he made a mention too! He is not dependant on catholic, bhaujan samaj, and Saraswat votes either. His total vote bank is slum dwellers. If one does not agree to this please have a glance at ward /booth wise polling results of all his past elections. Today real Madgaonkar can comfortably say that he is not the representative of Madgaonkar but is a representative of slum dwellers in Margao - A perfect representative of Aam Admi (non Goans). What more you all want!! Are still talking about minority segment? The so called minority segment in Margao has been greatly diluted by no other person than Digamber. Remember one thing, as more and more migrants settle in Margao the percentage of Catholics is going to go down and down. For the migrants that come to Goa or say Margao are either Hindus or Muslims and not the Catholics!! Today as per statistics, about 47 migrants, on an average, come to Goa via Railway i.e. about 17,000 thousand migrants come to Goa per year!! And this number is still increasing day in and day out!!! Three Cheers to Digu and his government. Some one made a mention saying Digamber who had the same votes for him when he was wearing the BJP shirt - but no one said very much then. It's amazing that in Goanet no one writes about Digamber ever since he wore Secular Congress cap or before that when he was wearing BJP shirt Goanet was getting flooded with messages after messages on Digu - check Goanet archive!!
