Simple economics Mr. Chari ! We cannot stick our heads in the sand and deny
the fact that the price of petroleum products are going up in the international
market. India does not produce enough petroleum to dictate the price, so all
we can do is let the price increase pass through to the consumer. In fact the
Governments in power be they BJP or Congress have always pass the increased
cost of petroleum through to the consumer, in a phased and orderly manner,
rather than reflect the sudden upturn in prices. The latest increase has
deliberately been kept to a minimal to reduce the impact on the economy. If
market forces were allowed to dictate what we paid at the Petroleum pump, we
would be paying a helluva lot more. Lets not bring party politics in this
discussion. The party in opposition will always
criticize what the ruling party does, just to be contrary.
