The vigilant villagers of Tank and CupAdnem of Balli Panchayat foiled the
attempt of Quepem Municipal council illegally dumping garbage in an abandon
quarry at Tank Quepem .
That at around 1.00 PM during noon time anticipating no body will be there
at Tank and they will be free to dump the garbage in the abandon laterite
Quarry , both council truck loaded with garbage left from Quepem town to dump
the same in an abandon laterite quarry at Tank. After getting a clue that the
Quepem Municipal council truck loaded with garbage are headed toward Tank to
dump the garbage, around 60 to 70 villagers gathered on the road at Tank and
when the garbage loaded truck reached at Tank at 1.30 PM the villagers stopped
and blocked both the trucks.
That after about one hour the Quepem Municipal council Chief officer Ajit
Panchawadkar along with a police team reached at the spot but the angry
villagers did not ready to listen to the C.O. not to the police to leave the
truck. Than at around 4.00PM the Quepem Executive Magistrate Shri Sudin Nato
reached at the spot, who after a marathon discussion convinced and orally
assured the villagers that in future no attempt will be made to dump garbage in
their locality. The villagers then at around 4.30 allow both the truck to
leave. The Municipal drivers drove both the garbage loaded truck back to
Quepem town and are presently parked infront of the Quepem Muncipal council.
Meanwhile the villagers of Tank and Cup-Adnem have filed a complaint against
the Quepem Municipal council for illegally dumping garbage in their locality.
