Caje’s Bhaji. Top 5 on Goan media.

This is not intended to make headlines.
Just a disinterested listing of my top 5 observations on Goan media.

Unfortunately we tend to think that Goan media is restricted to print.
One notices scant attention to other media.
In fact I would love to see all media in Goa flourish and improve
professionally.

Top 5 most powerful media vehicles that are not explored enough:

Goa Doordarshan (high viewership ratings, surprisingly more than cable/
satellite)
All India Radio (widest coverage, loyal listenership, poorly marketed)
Marathi Press (Gomantak and Tarun Bharat have more readers than all other
English and Konkani newspapers combined)
Tiatres and Nataks (Folk communication that powerfully relates to large
audiences)
Sermons at Catholic masses (huge opportunity here to improve delivery)

Top 5 reasons why Goan media is not flourishing:

Low staff salaries (pay peanuts, get monkeys)
Under developed advertising industry (improving this will aid point 1)
Weak brand marketing (feeble attempts to grow the market)
Poor content (typographical errors, shoddy production values, disgusting
diction, cut-and-paste reproductions)
Lack of investment by media owners for training

Top 5 suggestions to my favourites:

Originality of style (behram ‘busybee’ contractor is alive in stray thoughts)
Respect for copyright (is Garfield’s illustration paid for by the tomcat?)
Verbal diarrhoea of some Rainbow FM Rjs (are there quality checks?)
Proof checkers please! (too many mistooksJ)
Please don’t cut-paste-and-pass-as-yours from other sources (features, cyber
postings…)

I welcome the entry of new players in the Goan media space.
Watch this space!
