SCIENCE FIESTA 2008 INAUGURATED: February 26, 2008: The
"Science Fiesta 2008" has been launched, with the theme of
'Interface of Science and Society'. It is organized by Goa
Science Centre in association with the Department of Science,
Technology and Environment, Government of Goa and National
Council of Science Museums at Goa Science Centre and has been
launched at at Miramar today. It is being held to commemorate
the National Science Day 2008.

National Science Day is being celebrated every year on the
28th February to commemorate the discovery of the "Raman
Effect" by Sir C.V.Raman for which he was awarded the Nobel
Prize. The celebration is aimed at focusing attention on
Indian science and scientists and their role in India's
development.

Director National Institute of Oceanography Dr. Satish Shetye
stressed the need to create a favourable atmosphere which
would help inspire students.

Activities like poster exhibitions, demonstrating the magic
of sciences; puppet shows on scientific themes, popular
science book exhibition, popular science lectures on
important aspects of physics and on general science and
technology, and night sky watch activities have been proposed
for the visitors expected during the period.

Project Coordinator Goa Science centre Shri V. N. Joshi
welcomed the guests. Goa minister Churchill Alemao also
inaugurated pictorial science exhibition titled "Story of
Poles'. Director of Science and Technology Michael D'Souza
also spoke on the occasion. (Based on a Dept of Information

COMMUNITY POLYTEC COURSE AT ECOXIM, BARDEZ: February 26,
2008: Radha Krishna Sanskrit Sounstha and Government
Polytechnic held a prize distribution at Ekoshi on Sunday.

The Community Polytechnic wing of Government Polytechnic
Altinho had conducted various short term courses for the
women in Ekoshi which included, soft-toy making and
artificial jewelry making. Certificates to the successful
trainees were presented on the occasion at the hands of the
dignitaries.

TRAINING FOR SCOUTMASTERS AND GUIDECAPTAINS: Feb 26, 2008.
The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State has planned several
courses to be conducted for the Scoutmasters and
Guide-captains in the month of April this year. The
Association has requested the schools to depute their
teachers for the course.

The Basic Course for Scoutmasters will be held from April 17
to April 26, 2008.  The course fee will be Rs. 800 and
development fe Rs. 150. For Guide-captains, the equivalent
course will be from Apr 20-26, costing Rs 600 and a
development fee of Rs 150.

The Advance Course for Scoutmasters will be held from April
19 to April 26, 2008, with course-fee and development fee
pegged at Rs 800 and Rs 150 respectively. Guide-captains will
have a fee of Rs 700 and Rs 150 for the parallel course from
Apr 20-26.

All courses will be conducted at Don Bosco Novitiate (Odxel)
Taleigao. The reporting time on the first day of the course
is 11.00 am, before lunch.

Scoutmasters who have completed one year after attending a
Basic Course of 10 days duration and who runs a unit
effectively and Guide-captain who have completed six months
after basic course can attend the advance course.

Schools have been asked to send the names of the participants
in the prescribed format by March 15, 2008 to the State
Secretary, The Bharat Scouts and Guides, Goa State, Near Cine
National, Panaji Goa. The Courses are approved and
recommended by the Department of Sports and Youths Affairs,
Government of Goa, says a DI press note.

JANSHATABDI TRAIN TIMINGS CHANGED: The arrival and departure
timings of the popular low-cost express train connecting Goa
and Mumbai, the Janshatabdi Express (Train Number 2051/2052)
have been revised w.e.f. February 27, 2008.

But the changes will only movel the timings of the train by a
few minutes, says an official press note from the Konkan
Railway.

Train No. 2051 Dn CSTM-Margao Janshatabdi Exp. which used to
arrive at Margao station at 1355 hrs, is now scheduled to
arrive at 1410 hrs from Feb 27.

Train No. 2052 Up Margao-CSTM Janshatabdi Exp. which used to
depart from Margao station at 1420 hrs will now leave at 1430
hrs from Feb 27, 2008.
