SEZ opponent Keri sarpanch ousted
PONDA, FEB 28, 2008 - Keri Sarpanch Dr Videsh Jalmi was ousted in a
no-confidence motion by 5-1 votes on Thursday.
Five members, Rohidas Kerkar, Sitaram Gaude, Trupti Naik, Ashwini Gaude and
Ashruti Parwar supported the motion, while Dr Jalmi was the lone panch to
oppose the motion. The panchayat does not have the seventh member, following
the demise of Ankush Varik last month.
Dr Jalmi earlier enjoyed the support of four panchas in the seven-member
panchayat.
Then, BJP-backed panchas, Rohidas Kerkar, Sitaram Gaude and Trupti Naik
switched over to the opposition group, following the agitation over the
proposed SEZ in the village.
While Dr Jalmi was vehemently opposed to the proposed pharmaceutical unit at
Keri and had even headed the 'Keri Nagrik Kruti Samiti', other panchas
decided to accept the pharmaceutical unit minus the SEZ status.
They argued that any project without the SEZ tag would come under the
purview of local uthorities, including the panchayat.
