Valmiki Faleiro wroteabout KSK Menon: KSK was a man of steadfast principles. He promised his photograph would never appear in his newspaper, except once – when he died. To his eternal credit, he scrupulously lived by his values. ==
jc's response: I really hate to disagree with the good, knowledgeable and erudite Valmiki Faleiro, but this time I must. I submit that the above statement is unlikely to be accurate. A search of the archives of the Navhind Times(March 24, 1972) will reveal on its front page - a picture of KSK garlanding Bandodkar after the latter's victory at the polls. The previous month was remarkable for KSK predicting a victory for Catholic Independent /Congress candidates in (previously) safe United Goan Seats. Interesting. (More on that at another time) Not sure what his values were. Certainly appears to have survived by adhering scrupulously to them. PS: As young students in the KSK days, some of us would stop by the Navhind office - after the college library shut down (12 midnight) and have a cup of coffee with KSK Nair and Balan (Nalab). Occasionally, Vernon D'Souza, Singbal, Promod Kandeparkar and Cyril D'Cunha were there. Many words flowed. I could not honestly say that too many of those words were complimentary. sincerely jc BTW: I reconnected with one of those students just a few months ago. It was good to talk with Michael Pinto - one of the true legends of Goa Collegiate debates at the time - the others being Pandurang Ginde, Yadunath Joshi and Santosh Laad. All very brilliant chaps. Micheal who presently lives with his family in COLD Winnipeg where it is minus 40 on a good day at this time of the year, is the father of young Goan-Canadian musician Neal Pinto. When Micheal and I chat these days - we reminisce about the jokers in the debating pack i.e. Wilfred Mesquitta and Jawaharlal Henriques. Anyone remembers them ? (:-)
