Dears,

Just two points:

I wonder if Sheela Jaywant will tell us the name of the lady who
entered politics to clean it up and, if she is not in Goa, what is her
assessment of politics today? In Goa, Mummy Victoria is already on
"ventilator" as a legislator. No other woman has survived, with or
without a broom. ;-)

Watchdogs have a defined role. Would Sheela propose that the watchdog,
however good, be allowed in the pig-sty because the boar is getting
nasty?

On the contrary, I am trying to get a good activist like Floriano Lobo
to shun politics and concerntrate on keeping politicians in check
...because one cannot enter a pig-sty and hope to remain both clean
and efficacious any more than a domino player can hope to win chess
without adopting the new rules of play. See what happened to
activists-turned-politicians Nirmala Sawant, Matanhy Saldanha [both
became Ministers for a period] ..... or even to Dr. Jack Sequeira
..... in politics! Even Churchill Alemao, Ravi Naik, Dr. Proto Barbosa
and Manohar Parrikar became CMs overnight. Dr. Jack Sequeira NEVER
became CM or Minister even for a day ...and Leader of Opposition did
not even have a cabinet rank those days.

Mog asundi.

I know of only one person who got into politics because she believed
that unless 'good' people got into politics, there would be only cribs
and more cribs. Remo could consider that. As could many others who
protest strongly, but do not want to get into the fray to straighten
out the mess.

Remo Fernandes

Who is responsible for this mess?
The politicians, ministers, sarpanchs, municipalities. In short,
everyone in power. Because everyone in power in India is corrupt.
Especially in places where there's money to be made from every square
inch of land.

How can we end the nightmare?
As a country we've reached the last stage of corruption: the people
themselves prefer to elect the corrupt candidate rather than the
honest one, because the corrupt one will do their 'job' for them, such
as give them licences for illegal construction, with illegal
electricity and water connections to boot.
