Anand Virginkar wrote:
Being anti-communal has become a fashion statement in Goa and in India at
present. It is also a major money making enterprise. This has resulted in the
communal image of MP and Goa BJP being blown out of all proportions. The
Congress has made full use of this and has focussed its election propaganda
almost solely on harping on this issue (and has provided ample funding to the
communal harmony agents operating in Goa and encouraging minority communalism)
Miguel commented:
I will leave this to CICH and other "Communal Harmony" organisations to reply
to your allegations of FUNDING.
RESPONSE:
Loose talk does not merit response, but malice based on fiction needs to be
countered. The apologists for communal politics have no argument to buttress
the holes in their defense of the indefensible. Hence they cast malicious
allegations that all opposition to their hate politics is funded by the parties
that are politically opposed to them.
As far as Citizens' Initiative for Communal Harmony (CICH) is concerned, we are
proud to wear our integrity on our humble sleeves. Our accounts are
transparent. We have a bank account and issue receipts for contributions.
Donation-drives have not really been big-time and WE ARE NOT A FUNDED
ORGANISATION or "a money-making enterprise" but ending oftentimes putting money
from our pockets instead for organisational expenses.
Our colleagues are all the people of Goa who understand the urgent need for
consolidating communal harmony and countering hate politics. Theatre groups,
poets, singers, students, teachers and organisations participate in our
initiatives without getting paid any honorarium. CICH volunteers are selfless
citizens seized by the determination to ensure that Goa does not suffer the
devastating consequences of hate politics.
Anand may say that he never meant to slander CICH and that it was the
mischievous Miguel who put a name to his allegations. However, one needs to be
specific while accusing. Also, it is ridiculous to showcase a smokescreen that
the communal parties are not as corrupt as much as the corrupt parties are
communal. History is testimony that communal politics has been always funded by
an illegitimate or unaccountable economy. And that is a matter of concern for
every citizen who wants genuine communal harmony, justice and peace in Goa.
