I tend to disagree on the organised safeguards like reservations and 'Goa for Goans' etc. We are enterprising to some degree in places we move to but back in Goa, we tend to take things for granted, don't you agree? But before I talk about erosion of identity, one has to wonder why we move? (note, I am not referring to the present generation, the older ones). My partial answer/reason is we are a restless people with an psyche that has the idea 'the grass is greener elsewhere' ingrained into us. The other likely has to do with our identity...which is Indo-Portuguese (referring to the Catholics) and perhaps there is belief within us that a part of us does not belong here (which is not true), or perhaps there is a need to search for a broader identity. This is just a though as one observes folks who have relocated etc. For the most part, their lives are 'comfortable', yes but ............are they very different? Perhaps everyone toes a trend...we go away, its a compulsion, hoping we'd strike it rich and come back with trophy wives with multi-colored hair!
And as far as opportunities go, there are opportunities everywhere and one gets creative in adversity. Its human nature. If we throw up our hands and move away, that is the easy answer in the short term no?
