COMMENTS
If the NRI commissioner is working in the interest of Goa and Goans, then he
will start a speedy dialogue with the Election Commission, New Delhi, on
how best to grant voting rights for Ex-pat Goans/Indians in Elections in
India. This country cannot act as a bullock cart when world technology has
surpassed the bullock-cart age and most latest models of world manufactured
cars are on display on Indian roads.
W.R.T. Goa, its politics must reflect its citizenry's wishes who work and
pay through their noses for GOA and not the wishes of thousands of migrant
laborers who seem to decided on the type of politics Goans should have.
Goans far and wide must consider this Open Letter to the NRI Commissioner as
a TEST of his real interest of Goans at heart which should start with an
acknowledgement of the existence of this Open Letter from the good office
of the NRI Commissioner, soonest. This itself will send a signal to the
Expatriate Goans that the commissioner is actually having real interest of
Goans at heart.
Besides the above, the NRI Commissioner cannot stay forever silent on the
issue of the stopped IA direct flight from UAE to Dabolim/Goa.
It would not seem right if the NRI Commissioner forgot the very RAISON
D'ETRE of the NRI Commission in the first place.
This Open Letter is deeply appreciated.

Subject: [Goanet] open letter to the Honorable NRI Comissioner
Dear Honorable Comissioner
This letter is to address a deaper involvement by the Goans abroad, in the
happenings in Goa.
India is a Democracy, and as such, we value our right to have a say in its
Governance. Our basic right is therefore our ability to vote.
If we hold an Indian Citezenship, ability to vote should be something we
should take for granted. Countries like United States do this all the
time:
that is, they facilitate the process for Americans abroad to be able to
vote.
Could you do the necessary to implement a system for Goans abroad to vote?
The second group of Goans, are those who hold Citizenship in their adopted
countries. I have become a Goanetter lately, and am amazed by the
constructive
ideas that float around. The most precious treasures that these individuals
can
offer Goa, is their ideas....after all there is nothing on Earth that does
not
begin with a thought.
So the challenge is how to bring in these individuals into systems that
effectively help Goa. Physical distance is no longer a deterrance. We
routinely have board meetings with absent individuals, with both their
voices
and images projected in the board room. We can use the same technology to
serve Goa. I suggest that you come to know the minds of these individuals
and
nominate them to committes or subcommittees to serve Goa.
It is frustrating for many of us to see the Goan Administration try to
reinvent the wheel. Those of us abroad are part of systems that function
effectively, and have a lot to share with our Goan counterpart.
I hope this letter will serve as a starting point for discussion, thought
and
action.
Deu Boren Korum.
