We are told that there were lapses by Police Sub
Inspector Mr. Nerlon Albuquerque in the investigation
into the death of British teenager Scarlett Keeling
but no one has disclosed what exactly these lapses
were.
While the suspension of PSI Nerlon was itself
unwarranted, his sudden dismissal from service without
even a proper inquiry is deplorable and highly unjust
to say the least. PSI Nerlons statement should have
been recorded and as a basic principle of natural
justice he should have been allowed to explain his
version of the events.
The government would now have to explain what action
is being contemplated against the fleet of police
officers who took over the investigation of Scarletts
case after PSI Nerlon was suspended on March 13th and
have made no headway till date. They have thrown in
the towel and are now allowing the case to be handed
over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
What will come out of such an inquiry is anybodys
guess.
