Some people think that they are the lone crusaders in Goa while others are doing nothing. Well, here goes........... I am presently a member of 6 different organizations and am constantly involved in organizing different kinds of events and activities, alongside other members of my clubs of course. I'll mention just a few of them in which I am/ was involved as the Chief coordinator Republic Day Child Art competition- Around 550 + children participated in the same. Other entertainment programmes were also organized. Manohar Parrikar was incidentally the Chief Guest for the programme. Shivaji Jayanti- was appointed as Secretary of the State level committee by the Govt of Goa. Organized various events during the day- long celebrations in which more than 400 children participated. Also made arrangements for a presentation on Chatrapathi Shivaji by historian Prajal Sakhardande and a motivational talk by Pravin Sabnis. Also compiled and released a booklet on Chatrpathi Shivaji Maharaj that was distributed during the programme. Organized Science center visit for Government school children/ other under privileged children on Science day. Installed lights for Badminton Court in St. Inez. Partly sponsored the same. A Badminton Tournament for the residents of the locality has been announced and will be held shortly. 25 day Free Badminton Camp for children is currently in progress in Indoor Stadium, Campal-Panaji. 21 days Free Table Tennis Camp for children is currently in progress in Indoor Stadium, Campal-Panaji. Chess Holi program with Karnataka State Champion B Shivanandan, in association with Barve's Taleigoa Chess Academy was organized on Holi. Led the Campaign against SAG's arbitrary decision to grant another one-year extension to long-standing coach Roshanlal Nahar. SAG buckled under the intense pressure. Also highlighted several irregularities committed by the SAG and wrote to Government for initiating action on the same. The stadium is now buzzing with badminton activities ever since the new coach has taken over. And as a member, have been involved in other club programmes like blood donation drive, Road safety week- long celebrations, etc. Incidentally, I have mentioned only the programmes carried out during the last 3-4 months, if I mention all the programmes organized since the last one year or so, this post may be rejected for its length:-) Presently now involved in the protests against the Hotel project. Maybe I am not doing that much for the Goan Environment, I agree on that, but let's not forget that I am doing my bit in other areas like Art, sports, culture, community service, etc. Surely, we need activists in those areas too, don't we? Or does Rajan think otherwise? Cheers Sandeep Heble
