Domestic Air Travel Fuel Surchage going up by another 350 Only last month I think it gone up to by Rs350 per person per trip (o/w) and now it is going up again during the first week of May.
Very strange though! Every time the fuel prices go up the Airlines Fuel surcharge goes up too where the actual fare remains almost the same. Around 15 of this month plenty tickets available to Goa-Delhi for Just Rs.999 e.g. spice jet etc but taxes & fees Rs.2,850 extra Similarly, one could find lowest Goa-Bom fare around that time was Rs.495 but to it taxes+ fees to be added. If one is lucky, one could even find Goa-Delhi or Goa-Bom for just Rs.99 or even less or even FREE i,e, zero fare but taxes and fees to be paid by the traveller. So, what exactly is 'Taxes & Fees' ? Rs. 225 PSF (Passenger Service Fees or Airport Tax) Rs. 250 Congestion Charges Rs. 50 booking or transaction charges Rs.2,350 Fuel Surcharge ======================== Total Rs.2,825 and this is almost standard to any destination in India. (Some short haul destinations may charge 200 less on fuel surcharges) Another interesting thing I have noticed.. When you search for flight on the Internet etc say from Goa to Delhi, you may come across a cheaper fare when flying via bom i.e. Goa-Bom and then Bom-Del on two different planes or carriers, e.g if Direct flight Goa to Delhi say Rs.1999+2850=4,849, you may find the same for just Rs.750 via Bombay. But you will be surprised to see your final total fare coming to Rs.750 + 5,700= 6,450 (i.e. you been charged taxes & fees on two separate sectors i,e, Goa-Bom and Bom-Delhi). By this time, next year, if fuel goes up say by another Rs.2000 that means airline's fare say Rs. 999 + Taxes & Fees would be Rs.5000. So, even to go to Bombay, it will be around Rs.5,500 the cheapest. There are about 20 flts a day to Bombay Where as there are about 7 direct flts to Delhi per day. Besides, 8 to Bangalore, 3 Kochi, 1 Madras, 2 Hyderabad, 1 Jaipur, 1 Calcutta, 2 Kozikode/Kerala, 2 Mangalore, 1 Trivendrum etc Advantages: Quickest (if departs on time) Disadvantages: Flight delays/cancellations Expensive One has to arrive at least 2 hrs before the dep. time Baggage restrictions Taxi charges to and fro Missing/delayed luggage pl add more How about travelling by train to Bombay or Delhi? Will discuss it next.
