The annual Goan Chaplaincy Day will be celebrated on Sunday, 18th May 2008 at
Bishop La Franc School, Croydon with a Thanksgiving Mass at 13.15 hours that
will be followed by a social get-together.
The theme chosen for the day is: 'Called to burn in loving service'.
The Goan chaplaincy formerly known as the Asian chaplaincy-is the first ethnic
chaplaincy that was instituted in the UK to cater to the increasing number of
Asian catholics entering the country consequent upon the dismantling of the
Empire in the Asian and the African continents in the later part of the
twentienth century. Its goal was to work towards better integration of the
Asian catholics into the natonal church and foster ethnic cultures of the
communities through multicultural activities.
Owing to further demographic changes in the country, the Asian chaplaincy which
was always headed by a Goan priest since its inception, was re-christened as
the Goan chaplaincy in the year 2006.
The Chaplancy Day celebrations are held as a ways and means project to raise
financial resources for the chaplaincy.
The present incumbent Rev. Fr. Francis Rosario sfx will be the main celebrant
at the Holy Mass and the local superior of the Pilar Fathers(UK) Fr. Lucas
Rodrigues will preach the homily.
A famous Goan band 'The Rainbow's End' from Swindon will entertain the large
crowd expected on the day-which has been meticulously planned by the event
co-ordinator Ms. Jean Vaz under the overall supervision of the Goan chaplain.
The inimitable Lenny D'Costa will compere the function.
A sincere request to all Goans in the UK to attend the function and show
solidarity with the Goan Chaplaincy.
Tickets available with Fr. Francis Rosario on 07973655460
Thanks
J Mario Fernandes
