Theatre owners do not want to run Konkani films: Jacob

Prince Jacob, the "King of Tiatrs" has also found success in his first full-length feature film, "Padri", and is all set to repeat it with his second celluloid production, "Roddonaka".

Prince Jacob, speaking to "The Navhind Times" said that the theatre owners, in general do not want to run Konkani films and it made him undertake village screenings of "Padri" around Goa. "In fact, more such shows on giant screens are scheduled in villages, next week," he informed, adding "Such screenings also provide the film-maker with hard cash."

Speaking further, Prince Jacob said that his film "Padri" was not allowed to participate in the 4th Goa State Film Festival since it was produced by a non-Goan producer. "The film is a Konkani production and therefore should have been allowed to participate in the film festival," he observed, pointing out, "such hindrances at the government level disturb the Konkani film movement."

Prince Jacob further spoke against the rule which demanded a censor certificate from the state film festival entry obtained until the month of December. "The film festival is held in May, and only those films having a censor certificate until December are allowed to participate in it, which is nothing but sheer injustice on those films which receive censor certificates between January and April," he maintained.

Prince Jacob also demanded government subsidy for village screenings of Konkani films.
