The Rape of Goa - A photo documentary by Rajan P. Parrikar Venue: Menezes Braganza Art Gallery, Panjim, May 21-24, 2008 http://www.parrikar.org/misc/doc-notice.pdf --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Selma writes: >Please don't write back about chemical seepage into >the ground, etc, etc. The point is very simple. We >cannot willy-nilly say no to infrastructure or >industry. What we can do is hold them accountable to >ecological and conservation standards as decided upon >by Goans. Pray tell me about how Goa State Pollution Control Board operates. You seem to be talking theory; I hope you know that ground water was contaminated in Cuncolim areas by steel mills. God alone knows the state of Ground water in the Zuari Agro Chemicals area. Chemical industries, it is well known, are highly prone to pollution and have to be checked out 100 times before giving permission. In Goa on the other hand, everyone knows what it takes to get a permission. If we act against that, and throw the current politicians out, half our problems will be gone. >India's federal fiscal system has come under attack >many times. It discriminates against small states like There is nothing wrong with India's fiscal system. Just raid all the ministers in power, and see how much wealth they have accumulated. That alone will set Goa's fiscal problems right. As to administrtive jobs created by ZAC, it is time Goans got themselves trained and looked beyond being secretaries. In today's competitive world, it is only in the govt. or in big industries that one can expect to just push papers and get paid. While govt. needs to buck up, Goans also need to buck up and get trained as well as work much harder if they have to survive in today's world. regards, samir
