Selma,
For the little guy to get a fair price for his produce, he has to become a
member of a co-operative, thus becoming a socialist/marxist. If the consumer
wants to buy the produce at fair prices, s/he has to go to a trader. The
consumer also has to be convinced that the capitalist trader will provide him
produce at fair prices even though capitalism depends on the concept of "buy
low, sell high."
As far as misguided elitist intellectuals are concerned, I think all
the countries that you have lived in are the epitome of "misguided elitist
intellectuals." India thinks that it can only be governed by the Brahims
(spelling?), the Gulf countries only by the Sheiks and the USA only by the
George Bush dynasty. When are you going to live in a socialist country like
Canada where residents enjoy concepts such as free education, free health
services and a regular cheque from the Govt to the mother of every child? The
bonus of the Canadian socialist method is that we can (and do) kick out elected
public officials as soon as they stop performing. They are not elected again,
so bye bye elitist :-) Contrast this method to that of keeping on an
elitist leader just because he has the worst ratings ever of any US President.

I agree.
I have always admired Mario for being the sole person on Goanet capable
of subtracting value from a debate.
Looks like his position is now being challenged!

power, so as thereby to find satisfaction of his own selfish need. The increase
in the quantity of objects is therefore accompanied by an extension of the
realm of the alien powers to which man is subjected, and every new product
represents a new potentiality of mutual swindling and mutual plundering."
