Very sadly, Bosco, the mystic is a memory. The cook is not a goan, and the
difference is in the eating. The middle aged matron at the counter is Sacru's
daughter, the pretty twenty year old you and I remember from the 60's. The
Goans and Mangalorians of Kumta, Mangalore and Goa Streets, and Mint Road, are
long gone, as are the old structures that housed them, along with the essential
"aunties", one of each to a building. I remember D. Alba in Aloo Mansion, on
Kumta, the one with the three pretty daughters, each an Algarve imprint : you
just hush, now, Roland !!
On can still visit the Prince of Wales Club for Seamen, and get a nice meal
and a beer. It is around the corner, as is the penthouse Ballard Estate
apartment of the Rev Rudolf Heredia s.j. family. They had served our city
well, and we welcome Father Rudi on board : the forum could use a Professor of
Sociology ! eric.
