BICHOLIM MAY 23: Even after two months of the suspected incident of
food poisoning at Velgaum which killed two
persons the Bicholim police are yet to get a solid evidence to reckon
the exact reason behind the incident.
It may be recalled that on March 20, eight members from a family in
Velgaum, Bicholim
including Laxmikant
Anant Gobre (75), Shashikala A Gobre (60), Shalini L Gobre (45),
Prachi Pradeep Gobre (35), Pradeep L Gobre (45), Anant L Gobre (32),
Ganpati L Gobre (45) and Megha Pradeep Gobre (2), were shifted to GMC
Bambolim after they experienced
uneasiness.
Laxmikant, who was a diabetic, died in the hospital at 10.30 pm, while
his sister Shashikala, who was an asthma patient,
died at 3.30 am on the same day. Pradeep, Ganpati and Megha were
discharged in the next morning, while Shalini,
Anand and Prachi recovered later in the month.
According to villagers, the chain of events began on 16 when the
family consumed some vegetables, including cabbage.
Ganpati, who normally stays at Ponda, was also at Velgaum that day.
The next day some members of the family started experiencing
uneasiness and mild fever. The family ignored the
symptoms and tried some household medicines instead of going to the
doctor. On Thursday night, when their condition
worsened, the family doctor was called in and he shifted them to GMC.
"The symptoms of all the family members were the same and it might be
a case of food poisoning. Only the medical
report will indicate the exact cause," the family doctor had
commented.
The blood samples of the family members were immediately sent to
Forensic Medical Science Hyderabad to know the
exact reason behind the incident. But, even after two months of the
incident the Bicholim police are yet to get their hand
over the report.
"We are yet to receive the report and we don't really know the reason
behind the incident" Bicholim PSI, Tukaram
Walke who is investigating the case told Herald adding "we don't
really know the exact date when we would receive the
report but now the condition of the other family members is normal."
