To Goanet - The media in Goa is a travesty. There is not a single autonomous or independent outlet you can trust. Not a single journalist you can cite as an exemplar. Ominously, all the media outlets in Goa are controlled by either builders or miners or political interests. Editors and journalists are routinely wined and dined by the big bananas.
- Two editors are known to be very close to a Margao builder. They and others are right now busy trying to discredit certain inconvenient members within the GBA at the behest of the builders' lobby. - One major newspaper is owned by a mining family that also runs a construction business. - A weekly tabloid is run by a fellow who is allegedly a recipient of largesse from a miner. - Goa Doot is a BJP mouthpiece. - ToI has entered Goa recently. We know they sponsored a Goan real estate show recently in Delhi. - A fellow who runs a national TV channel is said to have violated property regulations in Calangute. And so on. The movement against land sharks, real estate, and mining, is a DIRECT threat to the interests of the people who own these media outlets. Therefore, BEWARE. Regards, r
