The tally as on June 2007 INC 16 BJP 14 NCP 3 Mgp 2 SGF 2 Ind 2 UGD 1 TOTAL 40 Now the latest tally will be this (as on 5/6/08) Cong 17 BJP 14 Ind. 3 NCP 3 MGP 2 Total 39 Let us see various possible combinations that can form a new govt with BJP that would require a minimum strength of just 21 MLAs. To split Cong, a break away group would require any 6 (6 being more than one third) So BJP 14 + 6 Cong + 1 IND = 21 Or BJP 14 + 7 Cong = 21 Or BJP 14 + MGP/NCP 5 + 2 IND = 21 Can Churchill do it? May be with Lourenco, his bro. Joaquim, Neri, Silveira, Madkaikar and Churchill himself = 6 + IND 1 + BJP 14 = 21 Can Ravi do it? With 6 Cong + BJP14 + IND 1 = 21? Can Narvenkar do it? With Cong 6 + BjP 14 + IND 1 = 21 How about Digu himself ? (This can not be ruled out) (He may have to resign as CM first saying enough is enough) With Churchill, Lorenco, Neri etc Whatever it is, it seems fall of Digu's Govt and forming a new Govt with BJP seems almost inevitable.
