TV Quiz shows in India have moved from having a knowledgeable person to having a celebrity as a Quiz Master. Viewership and TRP ratings (to attract advertisers) is all that matters.
I was reading about riggged quiz shows and similar scandals at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiz_show_scandals There is a movie named 'Quiz Show' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110932/ that investigated (fictionalised account) rigged quiz shows in the 1950s in USA.
