HONORING EMINENT GOANS

It would indeed be appropriate if roads and other public places

Were named after celebrities, so that names and faces

That were home-grown,

Became better known,

And thus provide for the youth, role models for emulation as a basis.

The concern is that this would cause an unseemly struggle,

In which vested interests would try to smuggle

In the names of cronies and others,

And deny the more worthy claims of another's,

And those in charge would have the demands of caste, creed etc. to juggle.

Will someone care to explain why Goa does not name roads, gardens etc after
a few of our sprinkling artists both visual and musicians? We have names of
some Indian figures who have no meaning nor relevance to our life for crying
out loud!
