St. Xavier's Students Excel


In the recently concluded T.Y. Goa University exams, students of St. Xavier's College have excelled in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams.

In the T.Y.B.A. examination 53% of the distinctions in Goa were bagged by Xavierites. The total number of Goa University distinctions is 86 and St. Xavier's obtained 46 distinctions. The first four students who secured the highest number of marks in Goa are Ms. Maria Muriel Barros (Psychology), Ms. Farrel Erica de Souza (English), Mr. Audric Agnelo D'Mello (English and History) and Ms. Amanda Jean Alphonso (Psychology). Students will be awarded ranks only after revaluation. Last year Ms. Tanvi S. Narvekar, student of Mass Communication and Videography had stood first in Goa.

In the T.Y.B.Sc. examination too, the first four students who obtained the highest number of marks in Goa are Xavierites, namely Mr. Siddesh Menon (Microbiology), Ms. Celita Dias Sapeco (Microbiology), Mr. Amit Rajan Patil (Chemistry) and Ms. Sneha Lotlikar (Chemistry). Though the share of Science Xavierites in the University is only 20.76%, the distinctions bagged by them are to the tune of 24.71%.

In the T.Y.B.Com examination the overall passing percentage at Xavier's is 97.16% while the University percentage is 86.22%. Though the percentage of Xavierites in the University is only 9.73%, its share of distinctions amounts to 31.06%, which means that out of 103 distinctions of Goa University, St. Xavier's secured 32 distinctions. In addition one third of 18 IMS (Goa) students who secured final admission for the year 2008-10 in top Business Schools (MBA) in India, are also Xavierites.
