For many Goans, even today, a trip to Church is followed by a trip to the Mhar. They see no dichotomy in this act whatsoever. Since Goan Catholics are relative new converts to Christianity, I am assuming this shamanistic element to our spirituality is derived from earlier rituals. If anyone has insights into this aspect, please do share. Does Hinduism have any shamanistic rituals and do Hindu Goans visit Mhars as well?
