Dear Cybergaonkars on Goanet, Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event to be held on 13th June from 4pm. to 6pm. at Goa Desc Resource Centre No.11, Liberty Apartments, Feira Alta, Mapusa will focus on community involvement in tackling malaria & other vector borne disease in Goa. This June a campaign has been launched for the prevention and control of malaria as well as other vector borne diseases like Filaria, Dengue, Chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis. The National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) has emphasized on involvement of the community in prevention of vector-borne disease through Behaviour Change Communication (BCC). What role can NGO's, Service Clubs, Mahila Mandals, and Consumer Forums play in making the Vector Borne Disease Control Program effective? How can Educational Institutions contribute to the behavioural changes with respect to preventing vector borne disease ? What responsibility can be undertaken by Village Panchayats and Municipal Councils through their respective Garbage Managment Committees to prevent vector borne diseases ? How can the village Gram Sabhas assist the Primary Health Centres in implementing provisions of the Goa Public Health Act 1985 ? The Balcao discussion will cover these questions and and also evolve an agenda for action by citizens on the issue.
