Was just wondering as to how the odiuos caste topic got injected into the
International Goan Convention. Is it one of the topics to be discussed at the
Convention? If not, the best practice would be to dismiss these charlatans with
the contempt they deserve. No amount of barking from the rooftops would restore
them their alleged place in society they want to reclaim as long as there are
equal oppurtunities made available to all.
Reminds me of an incident while in college in Belgaum,India. The Janata
Government had just declared a national holiday on 14th April-to mark the
birthday of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Some of my Hindu friends, apparently belonging
to the so-called upper class, vehemently opposed it categorising Ambedkar as a
Dalit figure and NOT a national hero. After a heated discussion when I managed
to corner them, citing the achievements of the man and that ANYONE can rise up
given the right environment, one of them promptly claimed Ambedkar as one of
them-a BRAHMIN,shifting the goal posts, meaning anyone with Ambedkar's brains
is a BRAHMIN.
So leave those nuvos and all the pseudonyms alone to feed on their vestiges.
The rest of the world will move on. Mario G, I 'm sure, you'll have a lot of
greater issues to contribute to.
