The dead cannot defend themselves. There is no bigger crime than maligning
those who can't defend themselves.
I dont know if Telo Mascarenhas is living or not, but my uncle Prof.
Shashikar Kelekar who wrote Telo's biography died in 1986, just two
years after he penned this book.
Shashikaka, as I knew him, was a man of high integrity. He was a professor
of politics at St. Xavier's college, Mapusa. He probably didnt know what
it means to manufacture facts.
Telo Mascarenhas and Mohan Ranade were two of Goa's greatest. It doesnt
matter to me if Telo had thousand wives. That wouldnt diminish his
contribution to the freedom movement.
People of slave mentality who dont have any shame and have
taken Portuguese citizenship have no caliber to comment on not just
Telo but on Goa's freedom movement too.
The guy who got one lathi from the Indian police in the sixties, and then
took the next flight to Bahamas is talking in disrespectful terms of
Dr. Lohia who held the hand of a gun-wielding policeman and stopped him
in his tracks.
How can Jose who is complaining about getting a lathi even 40 years later
can call 18 th June a sunday picnic?
Lohia remains and will remain an icon for Goa and we should take inspiration
from his courage of that day in 1946 to fight the corrupt.
Jai Hind!
