Press Release by Shrikant Barve June 24 2008 http://www.flickr.com/photos/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/2609126797/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/2609965194/ I had received following email from Sameer Salgaocar on Feb 26 2008 Sameer Salgaocar to me Feb 26 2008 Dear Mr. Barve, With immediate effect, I would not like to be associated with the Taleigao Academy or yourself in any way in my personal capacity. Inspite of my repeated advice to you to stick to chess and its promotion, you have now chosen to attack our AICF President and all its functionaries (including myself). What is reprehensible about the fact is that you have not acknowledged the immense contribution of our President without whose financial support we would never got rid of a certain individual by the name of P.T. Ummer Koya. While the Indian players are winning immense acclaim and laurels for our country and are being suitably rewarded for their efforts by both AICF and the Sports Ministry, persons like yourself choose to cast aspersions on the way the game is being both promoted and supported. GSCA and AICF will deal with your remonstrations in due course of time. In my individual capacity, I would like to forget that I ever was associated with you. Regards, Sameer A. Salgaocar There after I received email from Tony on behalf of acting secretary of Goa State Chess Association. Asking for explanation on my remark on Yahoo Q/A. which also asked whether I am Shrikant B. I took advise from friends, most of whom said reject that I am Shrikant B. I also though of ending this simple controversy with a small moral blemish for me. On telephonic conversation with Sameerbhai, I told him my stand, he threatened to prove Shrikant Barve and Shrikant B and me as same person. He came out with a press release with title Action contemplated against Taleigao body on March 4 Whatever that has come on Gomantak Times on March 5 was my reaction to his press release. Next day he another one Gokhale fires back at Barve . All this has been promptly replied by me. It is available on www.goanet.org Full controvercy has nicely put in words by Pravin Sabnis. Checkmating Chess Pravin Sabnis [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Mar 6 06:40:30 PST 2008 Shrikant Barve is being accused by Sameer Salgaokar, President of Goa State Chess Asso that by answering a Yahoo question, Barve has attacked the All IndiaChess Federation (AICF) In Yahoo Answers to the question "Is Indian Chess Federation downgrading coaches by offering meagre coaching fee of Rs. 1000/- for Grand Master" Barve wrote: Mr. Srinivasn President of AICF and Srinivasn Treaserer of BCCI are same person I am told... Chennai has picked up Dhone for 6 crores .... and AICF president is offering Grand Master Rs.1000/- for a day..... This is how Top brass of Chess in India think of chess players...... Barve's answer was adjudged the best How do we know all this? Because Mr Salgaokar decided to publicise what was a trival matter onto the Goanet and other media Therefore, if Barve's crime is of writing in a relatively obscure e-space, Salgaokar's crime is manifold greater for he has educated all of us what a sham the AICF is turning out to be. We are all now going to watch if the most sincere promoter of Chess in Goa is going to be sacrificed at the altar of crawling before the AICF and if the rest in the GSCA are going to play Nero's guests. Whatever be Barve's punishment, Salgaokar should recieve the same multiplied many times over. For Salgaokar's crime is greater than Barve's (if what Barve did will be termed a crime) Does the GSCA constitution say that one cannot participate in any discussion on Chess on the internet? Secondly does Sreenevasan want to undermine the game, players and coaches and does Salgaokar approve of such negative attitudes. Do we believe in democracy and free expression? Barve is undoubredly the most enthusiastic and selfless promoter of Chess in Goa. And harsh action against such a sincere person will be unfair especially when the slight, if at all it maybe called a slight, is being unnecessarily blown out of proportion. Let's hope better counsel will prevail and no moves will be initiated to checkmate the game of chess and its greatest servant in Goa. -----Pravin-da I attended March 9 meeting where in Gomantak times, written complaint by Curchorem Chess Club etc, issues were raised and settled. However as AICF income issue was raised in the press release (as per my knowledge not approved by Secretary) I have emailed my Apology to AICF/GSCA Secretary and President on March 21 which read as under : Income figure of AICF quoted in Gomantak Times Apology In the Executive Meeting of GSCA on Sunday 9th March 2008 at Margao, wherein I was invited to the query regarding the figure quoted in the Gomantak Times I asked the amount Bambolim Chess Club had sent to AICF in respect of Open Rated Chess tournament held by them in the year 2006. Flat reply I got is, I am an invitee to the meeting, I have no right to get an answer for any question that I ask. I also stated that there were around 90 to 100 tournament very very big, very big, medium, small tournament held in India in the year 2007. Open Rated tournament held in Goa in 2006 was of medium level. As it will take months to substantiate the figure in Gomantak times as believed to be said by me and not to divert the attention from the core issue of Circular/notice dated 11 Jan 2008 Appeal to Our Senior Players / IMS' / WIM's / GM's / WGM's / FM's and coaches. I take the blame on me and Apologise to AICF , GSCA , executive members of AICF , GSCA or whosoever is related to this issue. Sameerbhai knew that my membership of AICf ends on 31st March 2008. Any think at AICF level has to be done before that. He went to AICF meeting with a Gomantak Times Copy forced Suspension on me March 27 2008. No one was knowing the reason for suspension till I received Show Cause notice from AICF dated May 16 (51 days after suspension) on May 19 2008. I promptly replied on next day. (Copy enclosed). I also resigned as secretary from Taleigao Chess Academy. Few of my internet friends made visit to AICF office on my behalf to get a copy of Constitution of AICF but it was in vain. Sameerbhai has been successful in keeping me away from my living and my passion. Yesterday june 23 2008 I received a letter from Goa State Chess Association enclosed with a cheque. It stated that Returning herewith the cheque for Rs.300/- at it is decided in the EBM of GSCA held at Margao on June 15 that the registration of Taleigao Chess Academy will not be renewed until Shri shrikant Barve, their Secretary cleared of all charges by All India Chess Federation who has been suspended from all chess activities pending enquiry. I had given this cheque in April and I had obtained receipt for this No 3631 dt 12 May 2008. I had conveyed most of the Ex. Members orally that I have resigned from Taleigao Chess Academy on May 20. My information tells me that in between March 27 to June 15 GSCA has held at least 4 Executive committee meetings. GSCA has never informed suspension of Shrikant Barve from chess activities by AICF to TCA during this period. I had applied for Certified Copy of Goa State Chess Association Reg. No. 39/78. I received certified copy of of registration of The All Goa Daman & Diu State Chess Association which states as under This society has not renewed its Registration Certificate till today. Therefore, it becomes an unregistered society under section 3 (B) (5) of the Societies Registration (Goa Second amendment) Act. 1998. In simple words Goa State Chess Association is defunct. I have advised my lawyer to take appropriate steps in this regard. Please note that 1. There were at least two All Goa Open Chess Tournament between 02-06. Now it has gone down to one in three months. In fact there has been only one tournament in last six months. 2. Goa State Chess Association has over Rs.5 lacs lying unutilized for over 18 months. 3. In a resolution passed by Ex. Com on Jan 6 08 Organiser of any chess tournament has to pay Rs.2000/- or 25% of entry fee to GSCA. to be approved in AGM. 4. This is what Hon. Secretary D.V. sunder said on June 20 after reelection .. My comments in bracket The highlight of our 2005-2008 period was overcoming a turbulent period, said D.V. Sundar. We have a surplus cash of over Rupees 90 lakhs (they have money but they dont want to pay reasonable remuneration to coaches) wdespite foregoing revenue of nearly Rs. 50 lakhs in the last two years - reduced annual fees for 4000 players from Rs.500 to Rs.250,abolising direct affiliation for private academics ( 44 academies were paying Rs.20,000/- each per annum ) and took other player related expenses said Sundar ..Listing the major achievements of the AICF in the 2005-2008 period, Sundar said we were tough in the overaged players issue, provided plenty of coaching for our players (Not a single coaching camp in last three years for player representing INDIA at International Age Group Chess Tournament . source www.indianchessfed.org) and also paid appearance fee of Rs.10 lakh for the Turin Olympiad in 2006. Anand who won the World title in 2007 was presented Rs.10 lakh on his return by the AICF President N. Srinivasan .. http://www.indianchessfed.org/News/2008/June/aicfcoreteamunchanged.asp
