Dears,
All the accused in the Curchorem Sanvordem Communal Riots [I believe there is
no dispute about "those" being communal riots] are set free for lack of
evidence after ham-handed investigations ...and it is time for Round-2. If the
people get the government they deserve, the Government also gets the people it
deserves!
It is good that the riots are in the CM's own territory and vote bank.
There is a warning for the scribes too. It is easy to inflame passions .... not
so easy to bear the brunt. To what use is "Professionalism" without
sensitivity? The "Riot Police" are now fully geared to start a riot at the drop
of a hat. To what use the expensive gear otherwise?
During the GGRM demonstration at the Directorate of Panchayats last week, I saw
Policemen and women sweating profusely in their bullet-proof vests and helmets.
The photo of Police in Margao's Gandhi Market show them wearing rubber leg and
full arm guards.[See photo on Herald front page] In Goa's conditions it must
make them sweaty and irritable ....and violent, if provoked. If the Riot Police
are going to use this gear in Goa, the Goa Police better fit Air-Conditioners
to the Police Vans pronto!
The WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY at Don Bosco's Farm School,Sulcorna, attracted 200
Police in Riot Gear. The Gram Sabha at Benaulim and the GGRM memorandum at
Junta House each had about 50 of them. The CCCF has also attracted Police
presence for site inspections in Colva recently. What Riot Police force will
the SVM-GBA-JG meeting at Colva attract on Sunday 06 July, 2008.
The CM has been quoted as saying that there was a conspiracy behind the
vandalising of a shrine in Quepem [incidentally, an anti-mining hotbed from
where the Quepem-Sanguem Patrakar Sangh was taken for an outing in April last
to the rehabilitated and re-vegetated mine in Bicholim taluka, accompanied and
co-ordinated by PRUDENT Media, who else?]Perhaps he can share the details with
the people now. Otherwise, it may be forgotten like the vandalization of the
graves in Bambolim some time ago.
Politicians and police best stay out of religious provocations. The myth that
MLAs and police cannot be hammered has been broken on 18 February, 2008
...right at the Goa Police HQ, at that! Even the 1986 rioting was limited to
damaging the furniture [thereafter reimbursed brom Assistencia de Provedoria
funds, if I remember correctly]. The Police officers are not likely to take
grave risks after three of them landed in the GRP last February, efforts of
their wives' associations to mobilise support, nothwithstanding.
There are at least ten lakh adults in Goa to 40 MLAs and a few thousand
Policemen ... and many of them are not even able bodied any more. The Russians
and the Casinos seem to have inspired Molotov cocktails at Hospicio already.
Riot gear cannot handle Molotov Cocktails .... and petrol prices are not so
high as to make them unaffordable to the serious arsonist, it seems.
Goa is known for peaceful people. It is best that the builders, mine-owners,
politicians and policemen let them live in peace. Otherwise, there may be hell
to pay. Patience is already wearing thin.
Eve teasers target a local girl, Bajrang Dal targets the shopkeepers, Rajan
Parrikar targets the migrant muslims, Babu Azgaokar and his market committee
target the BJP, muslims target the Bajrang Dal, the Deputy Directors of
Panchayats issue Stay orders on the Village Panchayat's "Stop Work Orders",
police protect mining operations, Mannohar Parrikar labels Seby as Naxalite and
in the confusion construction and mining continues unabated and illegally.
It is VANA MAHOTSAV time ....and Pseudo Journalists are busy "planting" stories
in every possble media.
Mog asundi.
