To Goanet - A couple of reports in the media today related to Canacona.
- The villagers of Poinguinim have asked for a gram sabha to deliberate on a real estate project initiated by a Delhi company without the required permissions. - GIDC has proposed an industrial estate in Loliem. This is a perfect recipe for destroying one of the most beautiful and secluded Goan villages. Expect a deluge of ghatis and the emergence of slums in Loliem is these plans are allowed to go through. I was in Loliem, Poinguinim, Mashem and Galgibaga a couple of days back. Mirabile dictu, villagers in Mashem and Loliem had heard of the photo documentary "The Rape of Goa" (I surmise, through coverage in the Marathi papers) and wanted me to come back and screen it for them. I will make sure I get copies of the documentary out to these folks. Which reminds me. I shall also make sure the villagers of Taleigao are not denied the opportunity to see "The Rape of Goa" by rabid communal fascists such as the resident boy intellectual (99.99% boy and 0.01% intellectual).
