There are many Goans who believe that the real problems facing Goa are rampant
corruption, misuse of land and resources, haphazard development, overburdening
of the infrastructure and degradation of the environment. These problems are
primarily due to our own greed, our lack of respect for the constitution and
the law, and our lack of concern for our fellow beings, both Goan and non-Goan.
None of these problems will be solved by separating Goans from non-Goans, or
launching a new movement to demand special status for Goa because of an
illusory need to preserve some fictitious unique Goan identity.
